.This Week's Calendar
| Ongoing Calendar | Galleries
| Music @ the Clubs
Deadline
for Calendar and Art in the Galleries submissions are noon on Thursday,
a week before the issue that covers your event. Send an e-mail with
event, date, time, location and cost to attend to cal@eugeneweekly.com
| It's
"an explosion of sight and sound"! It's a "phenomenon
of historic proportions"! It's "unlike anything else!"
And now from Tuesday through Saturday it's sold out
beyond your wildest dreams!!! Welcome to Riverdance's
farewell engagement tour, please take your nose-bleed
seats in the balcony of the Hult Center, lean forward
slightly, take out those binocs if you got 'em and
prepare yourself for a "thunderous celebration" of,
uh, um … Irish song and dance. Our neato recommendation:
Squint your eyes and put out your hand so you can
only see the dancers from the waist up. It looks like
they're floating, right? Super cool. We don't want
to really hype a show you've either got tickets to
or don't. But there are a few scalpers on Craigslist
selling seats for $55 and up, so don't feel too helpless.
See Tuesday Calendar.

| Two
former and founding members of the Québécois
supergroup La Bottine Souriante have relocated
to the West Coast and reformed into a duo of fiddle
and guitar. Lisa Ornstein (pictured) and
André Marchand have been collaborating
for the past 30 years on traditional music from
the far northeastern reaches of Canada (also known
as the Acadia region, sort of like Cascadia in
central Oregon or the State of Jefferson in southern
Oregon). Interestingly, the Cajuns of New Orleans
were mostly descendants of Acadians who were expelled
from northeast Canada by the British in 1755.
We mention this only to suggest a connection between
Ornstein and Marchand's Wednesday performance
at Sam Bond's and the Cajun/Zydeco dance
earlier in the evening at the World Café,
a presentation on travels in Quebec province
at Springfield's Willamalane Adult Activity Center
on Tuesday and a certain restaurant across the
street from Sam Bond's serving up a soulful dish
of the South with Cajun-style flair (should you
require relevant edibles with your music, dancing
and slideshows). Eugene Weekly: Because
connections are important. See Calendar.

| StART
the new year off right with a First
Friday ARTWalk "pARTy" and five-year
anniversary celebration at the Downtown
Library, where local ARTist John
Rose unveils his new stained glass
window on the library's first floor.
More than 100 years of library history
and lore are displayed in a photographic
exhibit on the second floor and
local pARTy band Riffle turns up
the music, turns off the shushing
and allows you to dance in a crazy
manner around the stacks. For ARTWalkers,
local ARTist Tenold Peterson will
then lead the group to the Jacobs
Gallery for the closing reception
of the "Four Visions: The Human
Story" group exhibit in multiple
mediums (art by J. G. Pretti pictured).
Third and final stop this month
(it's a short one) is at the Museum
of Unfine ART, where an open exhibit
of ART and photography by over 30
ARTists — all relating to
the theme of the family —
is shown through Feb. 14. See Friday
Calendar.
