The city of Eugene was one of 10 recipients nationwide announced by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, in partnership with the Center for Court Innovation, as a 2016 Community Court Grant Program winner. “Eugene Community Court will receive $200,000, as well as technical assistance from the Center for Court Innovation to implement a community court. Community courts respond to quality-of-life crimes by ordering offenders to pay back the communities they’ve harmed through visible community service projects — for example, painting out graffiti, beautifying neighborhood parks and cleaning up litter and debris from public streets.”

Sweet Life Petite, Sweet Life Patisserie’s second location, is officially open as of Monday, April 26, near the intersection of 19th and Agate south of the University of Oregon campus. Offerings at the new location are similar to the sweet treats at the original bakery, say owners Catherine and Cheryl Reinhart, with cakes, cream puffs, candies and more. Just before opening, Cheryl Reinhart says, Sweet Life Petite suffered a bit of a jolt when a car ran into the building — no one was hurt, and the building suffered little damage. Get in touch with the new bakery by calling 541-683-5676. Hours are the same as the original location: Monday through Friday 7 am to 11 pm and Saturday through Sunday 8 am to 11 pm.
