The Eugene Peace Team will join the international Culture of Peace Initiative to observe the 2012 U.N. International Day of Peace Sept. 21 with a series of events.
From 7 to 8:30 am Friday at the Eugene Hilton will be an interfaith community breakfast with Anita Weiss, Ph.D., speaking on “Understanding Women’s Rights in Islam.” Cost is $5-$25.
From 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Friday at the EWEB Plaza will be a free event with music and a proclamation by Mayor Kitty Piercy of City of Peace Day. At noon will be a moment of silence for peace and a linking of hands across Lane County, followed by a walking tour of the DeFazio footbridge across the Willamette to the site of the Nobel Peace Park.
From 6:30 to 7:30 pm Friday at the EWEB Training Room will be a free international flag ceremony with Olympian Paula Berry speaking on “Peace is the only Gold.”
