Take a sojourn in Cottage Grove this weekend and learn about its lively origins with four days of old-timey fun at the 55th Bohemia Mining Days Festival. This year’s theme is “Swindlers, Scoundrels, Liars & Cheats,” a nod to the town’s wild youth, and it will play out through parades, gold panning and other demonstrations, scores of vendors, live music, a beer garden, a root beer garden, pony rides and a carnival. Venues throughout town will host the festival, but the majority of it will take place at Bohemia and Coiner Parks. On Sunday, July 20, The Prospectors & Golddiggers (of the literal kind) Club will hold its 50th Miner’s Breakfast on the Mountain, an early morning feast of pancakes, ham and eggs.
The 55th Bohemia Mining Days Festival in Cottage Grove is July 17-20; details and the full schedule are available at www.bohemiaminingdays.org. Carnival and select events require admission fees, but entry to festival is FREE. — Samuel Wendel
