Norma King of the Springfield Trap/Neuter/Return Project says that of the strays and homeless cats she catches and fixes, about 60 percent are friendly, adoptable cats that have been abandoned. That’s why King is holding July 20’s Adopt-A-Thon, where aspiring cat owners can take home local, adult cats for $40 to $90. This fee includes spay/neuter, deworming, flea treatment, vaccinations and FIV-testing. The Humane Society of the U.S. says that every year, about 2.7 million adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized — here’s a chance to help people like King, who are working to reduce those numbers.
