• “Digital Privacy and the NSA” is the topic of City Club of Eugene at noon Friday, Oct. 4, at the LCC Downtown Center street level meeting room. Speaker is Seth Wooley, senior software engineer at deCarta, Inc. and an expert on database security. Open to public; $5 for nonmembers.  

• The Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation (JELL) at the UO School of Law will delve into the delicate balance of energy policy and environmental policy during its annual student symposium beginning at 8:30 am Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Knight Law Center. The year the theme is “Balancing Energy and the Environment: Examining Trends in the Production and Regulation of Electricity.” Call 346-1665 for more information.

• The fourth annual CROP Hunger Walk to benefit FOOD for Lane County and Church World Services will begin with registration at 1 pm Sunday, Oct. 6, at Alton Baker Park’s big shelter. The walk begins at 2 pm. Organizers say every dollar donated provides three meals. Register or contribute at cropwalk.org. 

ACLU Conversations continue with the next free event from 5:30 to 7 pm Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Agate Alley’s Laboratory Restaurant, 2645 Willamette. Topic will be “The Right of Assembly in Public Spaces” with City Councilor Claire Syrett and Jean Stacey of SLEEPS among the panelists.
