Holler & the Hive, old-time music at beergarden
April 12 • 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm• Free
Immersed in the traditional genres of American music, Holler and the Hive is influenced, but not contained by the cannons of bluegrass, blues, Americana and folk, with a heavy dose of grit thrown in for good measure. You might find yourself looking on old, dusty records for the originals, but all members of Holler and the Hive write their own tunes with classical genres of good and hard times, complicated love and redemption. Their songwriting and instrumentation has a sound that’s new, yet familiar.
The band is made up of Justin Boe, who layers wailing slide guitar upon Eric Estling’s rich rhythm guitar and harmonica; jazz and funk influenced bassist, Ari Gold, who does far more than keep time; and Sarah Mazze, on mandolin and the majority of lead vocals. All sing backup to create harmonies with up to four parts.
The band hails from Eugene, Oregon and is not one to be missed.
