Dot Dotson’s is hosting a gallery opening reception for photographer Ben Ficklin 5 to 6 pm Friday, July 19. In his work, Ficklin only uses film but manipulates it to look like a photography-painting hybrid, reminiscent of Portland photography darling Olivia Bee.
The Eugene Storefront Art Project has changed its name to the Eugene Springfield Art Project. ESAP Executive Director Paula Goodbar writes, “The revitalization of downtowns Eugene and Springfield has seen the reduction in vacant properties. We have changed our focus more to building an artistic community and facilitating creative connections between artists and businesses. We facilitate art happenings in unexpected places and advocate for artists of all ages and all levels.” It’s good to see a nimble arts organization that encourages art in new, blank spaces. Businesses should take heed, if you have a blank wall, don’t go to IKEA for a print — hire a local artist.
