Who doesn’t want to be a National Geographic photographer when they grow up? The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art brings the legendary publications’ images back into the spotlight starting Sept. 28 with National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West exhibit. Rub shoulders with longtime Nat Geo photographer Sam Abell (he was last at the Schnitz for his exhibition Amazonia in 2010) at the free public reception 6 pm Friday, Sept. 27, and then learn about the magic behind the click with Abell’s lecture “My Journey in Photography,” 2 pm Sept. 28.
September has a Last Friday ArtWalk you won’t want to miss: The ethereal and masterful expressionist painter Kyle Lind is back with Kyle Lind: God Art Me Fun, which will feature oil paintings and drawings at Cush, 1235 Railroad Blvd. Check out Jeff Langevin’s Anima exhibit of digital paintings at Ninkasi Brewery for a juxtaposition of old and new technique. With Halloween around the corner, catch The Glass Pumpkin Patch, a fall-themed art show at Cornerstone Glass; half the sale proceeds for pink pumpkins will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer fund.
Local art and screen print studio Blunt Graffix opens its doors again 7 to 10 pm Sept. 27 for Blunt Graffix Reloaded. Follow the way of the dragon to the life-size metallic print of Bruce Lee.
Head back to campus and join the 2nd Annual UO ArtWalk 5:30 to 7:30 pm Oct. 2 starting at the Ford Alumni Center followed by stops at Erb Memorial Union, the School of Architecture and Allied Arts’ LaVerne Krause Gallery and the Jordan Schnitzer.
