Thank you for the lovely obituary you shared with us (“Art Johnson, 1928-2022,” 3/17). When I was struggling to start my own practice, Art Johnson took me aside and kindly told me the government should provide grants to new lawyers representing injured and disabled clients. (These clients’ cases are contingent fee.) It made me feel understood, so I share his encouraging words with any new attorneys getting started in disability related law.
We’ve lost an extraordinary member of several communities. Rest in power, Mr. Johnson.

Help keep truly independent
local news alive!
As the year wraps up, we’re reminded — again — that independent local news doesn’t just magically appear. It exists because this community insists on having a watchdog, a megaphone and occasionally a thorn in someone’s side.
Over the past two years, you helped us regroup and get back to doing what we do best: reporting with heart, backbone, and zero corporate nonsense.
If you want to keep Eugene Weekly free and fearless… this is the moment.
