Pizza lovers, rejoice! Local pizza shop Whirled Pies is now operating the restaurant portion of popular venue Cozmic at 199 W. 8th Ave. Don't worry, though — you can still catch all your favorite shows and events at the venue, because all but the restaurant has remained the same. "We're still having very frequent shows through Cozmic Presents," Whirled Pies co-owner Laurel Bui explains. "We're definitely using it as a venue and we've kept the same promotor and website." Oregon researchers seek to produce new varieties of hops

In 1981, when Philomath hops purveyor David Wills first started tinkering with home brewing, “microbrew” was a burgeoning term, and not all that familiar to Oregonian ears.  The hops available to home brewers at that time were “really ugly,” Wills says. “I thought hops were supposed to be brown, and it wasn’t until I visited the USDA Hop Research Farm that I realized hops are actually green.” Continue reading

Lucy Vinis ‘seriously considering’ run as 2016 Eugene mayoral candidate

Though the date to file candidacy for the 2016 Eugene race for mayor isn't until September, ShelterCare Developmental Director Lucy Vinis told EW today that she is "in a very serious exploration" and has "a serious intention of running" for mayor of Eugene in 2016. Vinis says she moved with her husband and son to Eugene in 1991, and it was an excellent place to raise a family. "I just want other families to have that experience of Eugene, to live well in this community," she says. Continue reading
