Camilla Mortensen is the longtime local editor of Eugene Weekly, the area’s alternative newspaper. The paper, which has been in print since 1982 (originally as What’s Happening) continues to print more than 27,000 copies a week in addition to its popular email newsletters and website. Camilla has a masters degree in folklore and mythology from UCLA and a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Oregon. She has been a reporter and editor at EW since 2007 and teaches journalism at the UO in the mornings before heading to the Weekly’s office. She also teaches newswriting at Lane Community College and advises The Torch student newspaper.
The Oregon Department of Justice sent a letter to the Lane County Counsel today informing the county of the decision not to pursue the investigation against Handy due to insufficient evidence he had violated any criminal laws. So the Old Spice man — the man your man could smell like — ad had me with "I'm on a horse." Now Portland's Widen+Kennedy apparently has another advertising hit on its hands with Old Spice Music. I mean who doesn't want to see a muscle-bound Terry Crews playing instruments with his muscles and randomly (I think) yelling out words like "Sausages"? Continue reading

Sometimes around the EW office we like to play "predict tomorrow's R-G front page," and sports news is often a sure bet. The not-so- Daily Emerald (online all the time, print, not so much) is already tweeting and posting that Ducks Football has NEW UNIFORMS (or basically an update of the Rosebowl outfits according to Nikeinc.com) and we figure the R-G will be close behind with full frontal Duck coverage. Friends of Family Farmers is reporting that the Oregon Court of Appeals has issued a temporary stay on the temporary rule that was to allow canola to be planted in an expanded area in the Willamette Valley. The Oregon Department of Agriculture's plan to reduce the restricted zone in which canola could be planted was met with opposition from specialty seed and vegetable farmers who fear genetic contamination with their crops. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made an slip of the tongue when he mispronounced Sikh as sheik when commenting on last week's tragic shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.
