Jody Rolnick

Publisher

Jody Rolnick brings a rich background in community newspapers, fundraising and business to Eugene Weekly, where she is the publisher. A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, she began her career as a community reporter for a weekly paper in northern New Jersey, then became a writer for the daily Jersey Journal in Jersey City. After covering news and features and working on the copy editing desk for several daily papers, Jody worked as an assistant account executive at a New York City-based public relations firm. Jody moved to Oregon in 1990 to become editor of the Cottage Grove Sentinel. In 1995, she was promoted to publisher, a position she held until 1999. In 1996, she received her MBA from the University of Oregon. Between 2000 and 2024, she served as a consultant, helping Lane County area non-profit organizations and government entities with business and strategic planning and grants fundraising. Jody joined Eugene Weekly in March 2024 as the community engagement director and became the publisher in September.


Camilla Mortensen

Camilla Mortensen, the Weekly’s longtime editor-in-chief and soon-to-be new owner, will continue to lead the newsroom and guide the paper’s award-winning local coverage. A reporter and editor at the Weekly since 2007, she also teaches journalism at the University of Oregon. In addition, Camilla advises Lane Community College’s The Torch newspaper and periodically teaches newswriting at LCC. She is a former board member of the Society of Professional Journalists of Greater Oregon and is currently on the board of directors of the Highway 58 Herald, a rural Oregon digital news source. Her deep background in storytelling and education comes from her work before becoming a journalist. Camilla earned a masters degree in folklore and mythology from UCLA and a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Oregon. She was a bibliographer writing the American Folklife Center’s Ethnographic Thesaurus and taught folklore and literature at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Under her leadership EW’s journalists and student journalists have won regional and national awards with stories creating impact in the community.


Dave Newman

advertising sales manager

Dave Newman, a media executive and sales strategist with a strong background in publishing, marketing, and creative direction, is Eugene Weekly’s advertising sales manager. He will lead revenue growth initiatives, develop strategic advertising solutions, and build lasting client relationships. His career includes roles at his own agency in Los Angeles, Hercules Media, HuffPost, Peterson Publications, Knight Ridder, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Saatchi & Saatchi. With expertise in advertising sales, brand strategy, and audience engagement, he helps businesses connect with highly engaged local readers. Dave has a proven track record of driving revenue, leading high-performing teams, and implementing innovative marketing strategies. His ability to merge data-driven decision-making with creative storytelling ensures long-term success in an evolving media landscape. At Eugene Weekly, he focuses on maximizing advertising potential while supporting the publication’s mission of independent journalism. His leadership and vision make him a key driver in the company’s continued growth and market expansion.


JAMES BATEMAN

TECH MANAGER

James Bateman is Eugene Weekly’s web and tech manager. James has been with Eugene Weekly for 25 years. In addition to being the paper’s web and tech manager, he oversees distribution.


JJ Snyder

office manager / advertising sales coordinator

JJ Snyder is Eugene Weekly’s office manager and advertising sales coordinator. JJ has a degree in energy management and sustainability and worked in local schools to help keep energy consumption down, and money in the district. JJ has worked in the counterculture of Eugene in both local venues and management at Eugene Saturday Market, the longest running outdoor market in the country. When the opportunity came up to work at the paper she had been reading for 25 years, she jumped at the chance. Data driven, JJ enjoys keeping payments and schedules organized and transparent. 


McKenzie Young-Roy

art director

McKenzie Young-Roy (she/her) works as the art director at Eugene Weekly, designing layouts, collaborating with journalists and creating editorial illustrations. She loves getting to watch as stories go from concept to page to the hands of our readers. She has over seven years of professional experience and a BA in Fine Art from George Fox University. She has worked in both in-house illustration and design roles for clients like A Kids Book About, ACLU Oregon, The Ocean Conservancy, and Owlcrate Jr. She previously assisted in design and layout for Willamette Week and The Northwest Labor Press and received Best in Illustration from the Society of Professional Journalists of Greater Oregon in 2023.


Savannah Brown

calendar editor

Savannah Brown is Eugene Weekly’s calendar editor. She joined the Eugene Weekly as an intern in June 2024, where she covered the arts, culture, music and occasional obituary scene of Eugene. She became the calendar editor in June 2025 while continuing her regular reporting. In 2026, she is set to graduate from the University of Oregon with degrees in Journalism and Media Studies. 


Bob Keefer

Bob Keefer is arts editor emeritus for Eugene Weekly. Bob graduated from Harvard University in 1975 with a degree in history of religion and spent the next four decades as a newspaper reporter, feature writer and editor, focusing on writing about art and artists at The Register-Guard and, later, Eugene Weekly, retiring at the end of 2023. In 2006 he was a fellow at the National Endowment for the Arts’ Journalism Institute for Theater and Musical Theater in Los Angeles. Bob is former president of the Lane Arts Council, which administers the arts in the schools programs and supports the performing and visual arts in Lane County. Over the last 20 years he has made and shown his own art in galleries around the West. A longtime photographer, he was a resident visual artist in 2014 at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest, a long-term ecological research site in western Oregon. Photographs taken during his residency were used to illustrate Forest Under Story: Creative Inquiry in an Old-Growth Forest, an anthology of essays, poems and other writings about the Andrews that was published in 2016 by University of Washington Press.


Christian Wihtol

Writer

Christian Wihtol is currently a real estate writer at Eugene Weekly. A former health care finance writer for The Lund Report in Portland, his extensive experience in journalism includes leadership roles from 1990 to 2018 at The Register-Guard in Eugene, where he served as editorial writer, senior editor overseeing all news coverage, government news team leader and business news team leader. Christian’s career in news reporting began in the 1980s at daily newspapers in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. He holds an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a BA from Oxford University. Christian serves as vice chairman and board member of Emerald Empire Federal Credit Union, and as a member of the Lane County Planning Commission and Lane County Property Value Appeals Board.


Jane Dods

Jane Dods is a volunteer copy reader for Eugene Weekly. She moved to Eugene from Los Angeles in the early 1990s to escape the traffic there. “Almost immediately,” she said, “I encountered Eugene Weekly (then known as What’s Happening). I thoroughly enjoyed its somewhat offbeat presentation as I have always been somewhat offbeat myself.” Dods came from a town that had two daily newspapers, the Los Angeles Times and the (Hollywood) Citizen-News. “I have always loved print and want to see its continuance for years to come.” She started volunteering for Eugene Weekly in 2024. “I love being part of the family,” she said. 


Eve Weston

front desk receptionist / reporter / photographer

Eve Weston (she/her) is the front desk receptionist, reporter and photographer for Eugene Weekly. Eve graduated from the University of Oregon in 2024 with an undergraduate degree in multimedia journalism. Eve wrote for Eugene Weekly as a University of Oregon Catalyst Journalism Project reporter and later transitioned to an internship with Eugene Weekly. She began working with Eugene Weekly full time in May of 2025 and has since published stories on the environment, protests, art and more. Eve is Eugene Weekly’s main photographer, having taken photographs for six different Eugene Weekly covers so far.
