Two Eugene businesses, Cousin Jack’s Pasty Company and Vanilla Jill’s, have teamed up to create “Jack & Jill’s Courtyard” located on 3rd and Blair across from the back of Ninkasi in the Whiteaker. We hear it’s a great food destination with meat and vegetable pasties available from Cousin Jack’s cart and frozen yogurt, ice cream, vegan treats, soups, salads and more available at Vanilla Jill’s. The American wigeons are back in the Delta Ponds. I believe these are the first of our winter migrants to arrive. I look forward to the increasing diversity of waterfowl. On our side of the Delta Highway we have had only mallards and Canada geese for a long time. Turtles can be seen in the Delta Ponds on the west side of Delta Highway but it appears the cormorants have usurped them from their favorite logs. With increasing cold weather and less sun showing, the turtles will burrow into the mud at the bottom of the ponds to brumate. Continue reading

• Will your vote bring back the unicorns? Probably not right away. But not voting might bring back the dinosaurs. A few zombies are also on the ballot, hoping voter apathy will allow them to rise and feed. Mmm. Brains. Deadline for voting is 8 pm Tuesday, Nov. 6, and white ballot boxes can be found around town and on campus. Many of the races and issues in this election are too close to call.
