Arts Hound

For those willing to brave the cold, First Friday ArtWalk will be brimming with holiday cheer. Courtney Stubbert, of Eugene Contemporary Art, partners with Threadbare Print House to host a pop-up print shop —  “Give Shop” — 5:30 to 9 pm Friday, Dec. 4, at 945 Olive in Broadway Alley. “Give” posters will be screenprinted on the spot. All proceeds go to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lane County. CASA works to protect abused and neglected children, helping them through court and child protective services and into permanent housing. For more info, visit wkly.ws/0.

There’s plenty more to check out on the art walk including the stunning abstract paintings by Erika Fortner and the blustery evening acrylic scenes of Sarah Richards at new boutique and gallery Keven Craft Rituals, 268 W. 7th Ave. Stop in at Karin Clarke Gallery (760 Willamette) where the gestural large-scale figurative oils of Adam Grosowsky never fail to impress. And Sandi Grubb’s winter wonderland tableau “Wonderment” hits just the right seasonal note at the Pacific Rim Art Guild (160 E. Broadway). As always, OSLP Arts & Culture Program (309 W. 4th Ave) is full of colorful, cheery art that helps beat away the winter blues.

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art offers free admission on First Friday, a great opportunity to check out the exhibits Expanding Frontiers: The Jack and Susy Wadsworth Collection of Postwar Japanese Prints and Voices of My Ancestors: The Papercuts of Catalina Delgado Trunk before they come down this month or next.

If your holiday spirit is more in line with Scrooge, then Wandering Goat has the dose of grumpy you need with “F*ck the Holidays: A Disgruntled Spoken Word Open Mic Night” 8:30 pm Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Wandering Goat (268 Madison St.); free.

Old Nick’s Pub is putting its own spin on the holidays with “Black Christmas: A Gothic Party and Sing-Along” 9 pm Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 211 Washington St. “Come dress as your bloodiest Santa, your darkest elf or whatever the hell gets you groovy,” Old Nick writes.

Mark your calendars: The community is still coming to terms with the closing of the Jacobs Gallery at the Hult Center. In the new year, the city of Eugene’s Cultural Services will host “A Community Conversation About the Jacobs Gallery Space” 5:30 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the Atrium Building lobby, 99 W. 10th Ave. To share ideas in advance, email hultcenter@ci.eugene.or.us.
