Yesterday, without any notice, cherry trees were cut down opposite Campbell Community Center. The trees were lining the little road that leads down to the Willamette from the Ruth Bascom Bike Path. Every year these trees flowered and put on a beautiful show right next to the bike path. Never again.
Eugene’s public works department is on a vendetta to destroy this beauty. They claim they are trying to restore a natural environment — as if anything in this public park is natural. But cherry tree wood is valuable, and it has now been taken away. There are so few cherry trees left in the parks along the river.
Quickly, remove them all before they flower!
