Tip jars for checkers and baggers: an idea whose time has come, dontcha think? They’re essential workers. They deal with hundreds of us daily. They’re invariably personable and good-natured. At a time when COVID has pushed isolation, they are valuable human contacts. I’ve always enjoyed my interactions with them. They help keep me sane. More than once I’ve asked, “Where’s the tip jar?” I’d be happy to feed it. I have mentioned this to at least one manager who told me he’d been considering it himself. I realize it’s an industry-wide ban. I’m not sure why this is, but I think it’s time to lift it.
Thank you, checkers and baggers! I value your work and your presence.
