If you’ve been waiting for new songs from Bad Mitten Orchestre — one of Eugene’s hottest acoustic groups — the wait is over. The Orchestre is coming out in full force Saturday, July 21, to put on its CD release party for the new album BabyGone Broke On Through.
The solid 11-track album is named in honor of perseverance. This is quite appropriate given the band’s refusal to stop making music, despite the inherent difficulties of the modern music industry.
“Baby Gone Broke on Throughreally speaks to how we have worked through our struggles as a band, and how we work through our struggles in our own lives,” guitarist and vocalist Ila Kriegh says.
Bad Mitten Orchestre possesses a unique sound that is part gypsy and part Americana. The group blends sophisticated layers of accordion, banjo, upright bass, cello, violin and percussion with vocals that sound as if they come straight from an old-school speakeasy. And Baby Gone Broke on Throughis no exception to the Orchestre’s signature style, but the album’s lyrical content is bursting with the general feeling of meeting adversity head on.
“This album truly came from our hearts,” accordionist, ukulele player and guitarist Naima Muntal says. “I hope our fans feel it to.”
The Bad Mitten Orchestre CD Release Party is 9 pm Saturday, July 21, at WOW Hall; $8 adv., $10 door.
