A self-described “townie” (he graduated from South Eugene High School), Eirrin’s Bistro and Pub bartender Teren Baker began tending bar two years ago at Emerald Valley Golf & Resort, where he mastered a mean Tom Collins. He juggles slinging drinks with slaying the guitar in his punk-rock band, Pirate Radio, and doing “daddy duty” with his 6-month-old daughter. Ask him about his Guinness Irish bread (yes, that’s a thing). Don’t ask him to store your 12-pack from home in Eirrin’s fridge (yes, that’s happened).
What do you drink?
Gin on the rocks. I like this stuff called G’vine. It’s distilled from grapes, but it’s actually a gin.
What’s your favorite drink to make?
Bahama Mama. It has 151, Bacardi Silver, coconut rum, pineapple juice, coffee liqueur. Everyone always likes that one, or my Tom Collins.
What is the sexiest drink you make?
This thing called the Strawberry Marnier Martini. It has fresh-cut strawberries marinated in Grand Marnier. Then you make a purée out of that and mix it with vodka and lime juice.
Do you flirt for tips?
I don’t know if my girlfriend would be happy with me answering that one. [Laughs.]
What’s the biggest tip you’ve ever received?
At the golf course I got lunches from this old lady who would always come in and bring me lunches. It was kind of sweet. This isn’t a big tip, but one time she brought me a corn dog, and she was like “I was at Dari Mart and they were two for a dollar, so I was thinking that you were probably real hungry. It’s been in my purse for about two hours but it’s probably still good.” [Laughs.]
What’s your best attribute?
My personality … and chops. [Strokes his mutton-chop sideburns.]
What is the best or worst pick-up line you’ve heard?
“Give me another Long Island, that’s how I made my last kid. Are you busy later?” [Laughs.] I was like, “When you put it that way, I’m not sure you need another one.”
