A buzz of enthusiastic fervor emanated from the Lane Events Center last weekend as thousands of fans (we hear more than 9,000) intermingled at Eugene Comic Con, aka EUCON, a two-day celebration of comics and pop culture. A collection of Lord of the Rings characters posed outside the building on Saturday afternoon, entertaining a long line of people eager to acquire tickets to the spectacle. Inside, artists, vendors and writers filled the room, selling works of art and merchandise spanning multiple genres; cosplayers milled about, dressed convincingly as Princess Leia, or Batgirl, or Doctor Who, or steampunk badasses with mechanical wings; people took art classes and posed for pictures with celebrities and a replica of the TARDIS. In conclusion: We’re already counting down the days ’til the next EUCON.
Help keep truly independent
local news alive!
As the year wraps up, we’re reminded — again — that independent local news doesn’t just magically appear. It exists because this community insists on having a watchdog, a megaphone and occasionally a thorn in someone’s side.
Over the past two years, you helped us regroup and get back to doing what we do best: reporting with heart, backbone, and zero corporate nonsense.
If you want to keep Eugene Weekly free and fearless… this is the moment.
