City of Your Final Destination, The: The latest from director James Ivory (The Remains of the Day) follows a doctoral student who wants to write a biography of a dead writer; when the writer’s family denies him authorization, he travels to Uruguay to change their minds. Get Him to the Greek: Jonah Hill and Russell Brand reunite with their Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller for a comedy about a record label intern trying to get British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand, revisiting his Sarah character) to a show on time. R. David Minor Theater.

Iron Man 2: Minuses: the annoying replacement of Terrence Howard with (the fantastic, don’t get me wrong) Don Cheadle as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.)’s buddy Rhodey; Mickey Rourke, period. Plusses: Well, it still stars RDJ, and Gwyneth Paltrow was a nice Pepper Potts in the first one… Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson join the fray. PG13. 122 min. David Minor Theater.
Kids Are All Right, The: The latest film from Lisa Cholodenko (High Art, Laurel Canyon) stars Julianne Moore and Annette Bening as a lesbian couple whose two kids (the charming Mia Wasikwoska and Josh Hutcherson) get in contact with the man who was the sperm donor for both of them (Mark Ruffalo). Though Bening’s Nic gets the short end of the character stick, Kids is for the most part a warm and complex story about a loving, complicated, modern family. R. 104 min. Bijou.

Let Me In: Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) directs this remake of the atmospheric Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) is the shy, put-upon boy; Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) is the mysterious girl who moves in next door just as strane things start happening in their quiet town. R. 115 min. Cinemark. VRC Stadium 15.
Lottery Ticket: Bow Wow wins the lottery, and his neighbors all want some of that cash. PG-13. 99 min. Movies 12.
Metropolis: Sorry, I mean The Complete Metropolis: This is the version of Fritz Lang’s 1927 classic with 25 minutes of restored footage. Bijou.
Piranha 3D: Elisabeth Shue and Jerry O’Connell are among those trying to survive an attack of man-eating fishes. “It’s hard to imagine how scenes of mass dismemberment set during a wet T-shirt contest could be staged any better,” noted Entertainment Weekly, saying a lot with just one sentence. R. 99 min. Movies 12.
Salt: Angelina Jolie is a badass again. What more could you need to know? She’s a sleeper spy! She has to prove she’s not trying to assassinate the president! The movie will surely have even more exclamation points than this small paragraph! PG13. 99 min. Movies 12. (7/29)
Social Network, The: Apparently, Facebook gives good movie — or at least this story of the ubiquitous website’s founding does. Directed by David Fincher, the film stars Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland) as controversial Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. With Rooney Mara (soon to be Lisbeth Salander in the American Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Andrew Garfield (soon to be Spider-man) and, uh, Justin Timberlake. PG-13. 120 min. Cinemark. VRC Stadium 15.
Waking Sleeping Beauty: This well-reviewed documentary looks at the years of Disney’s rebirth — when the studio, after years of quiet, roared back with the likes of Beauty and the Beast (the first animated film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar), The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. PG. 86 min. Bijou.
