If you’re pestered by indecision — vanilla or chocolate, Beatles or Rolling Stones — rest assured that when it comes to Rod Stewart and Carlos Santana, you won’t have to choose. Stewart, “The Voice,” and Santana, “The Guitar,” reunite in an exclusive North American tour that hits Matthew Knight Arena July 31.
The duo may seem odd on paper, but there’s no doubt that this tour will satisfy the nostalgia of many rock aficionados. Imagine a concert where you can groove on the mythical guitar solos and Latin percussion of “Smooth,” but also be singing the catchy disco number “Do You Think I’m Sexy?”
Combined, the pair has sold more than 230 million records, and these two legends are sure to pull from that arsenal of hits as well as bring out new songs from their last releases: Corazón (2014) for Santana and Time (2013) for Stewart. Even though they perform separately, plan for them to join forces on some unheard jams.
“We just played together for the first time at his Las Vegas show,” Santana told Rolling Stone. “We did the Etta James song ‘I’d Rather Go Blind,’ and people kept saying, ‘Man, we got chills from the first note.’ Rod’s got the voice where he can do anything he wants. It’s just a matter of willingness.”
Rod Stewart and Santana perform 7:30 pm Thursday, July 31, at Matthew Knight Arena; $39.50-$152.50.
