New Coat of Warpaint

Indie band Warpaint releases "Champion" in lead up to new album

It’s been six years since the last Warpaint video, but the long drought of new material is over.

Indie band Warpaint, two of whose members are from Eugene, released a music video for its single “Champion.” The single is off the band’s new album, Radiate Like This, scheduled to release May 6.

Warpaint recorded the new album not just social distanced but very physically distanced — each member was in a different city — so recording a music video was tricky, bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg said in a press release for the music video. “The motivation was to feel like a champ and deliver the goods and let your honey flag shine,” she added.

The video was created by bandmate Theresa Wayman, who grew up in Eugene. Lindberg said in the press release that Wayman provided each member with direction on how to pose for the camera. The video fits a slow tempo song, fluttering from portraits of the bandmates to scenes of an ocean.
