Do comments on news stories contribute to dialogue or take away from it? After a good 10 years with no comments on EugeneWeekly.com, we turned comments back on in 2024. Since then, we haven’t noticed too much dialogue. 

The letters page gets some back and forth, and of course people comment when they are mad. But is there civic and civil dialogue and conversation? We think we see more of that in our letters to the editor.
