Behind every great man is a great team. Hip-hop artist CyHi the Prynce is part of Kanye West’s GOOD Music crew; in fact, CyHi garners writing credits on nine out of 10 tracks on Yeezus. In February, he released his sixth mixtape via GOOD Music, Black Hystori Project, an 18-track meditation on civil rights and iconic figures including Nelson Mandela, Napoleon, Coretta Scott King and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The mixtape is drawing comparisons to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill for its social message. CyHi the Prynce brings his Hystori Tour, joined by California rapper B.A.M., to WOW Hall 9 pm Friday, June 6. Listen to Black Hystori Project at http://wkly.ws/1ro.
Eugene-turned-Portland band The Longshots returns 10 pm Friday, June 6, to Luckey’s. The six-piece ska outfit also brings special guest, reggae legend Norma Fraser, to the stage. C’Mon baby!
Don’t miss: Scott Cook, “Canada’s prairie balladeer,” plays a house concert 7 pm Sunday, June 8, at 755 River Rd. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for info. Cook is touring with his fourth album, One More Time Around, a soulful country collection of his travels, guided by his fingerstyle guitar, clawhammer banjo and chocolate-y vocals.
