2016 Hate and Bias Report

• Staff from the Office of Human Rights and Neighborhood Involvement, Eugene Police Department, elected officials and members of the groups including the NAACP, Trans*Ponder and Centro Latino Americano will release the 2016 Hate and Bias Report 10:30 am Thursday, July 13, at the Mims House, 330 High Street. The report documents hate and bias incidents — both criminal and non-criminal — that happened in Eugene in 2016.

• CAPE (Community Alliance for Public Education)’s monthly Beer and Blab is “a chance for us to get together in a casual setting and talk about the future of public education and our roles in making that future!” according to the Facebook event. It’s 4:30 to 6 pm, July 14, at Sam Bond’s Brewing, 540 East Eighth Avenue. Kid friendly of course, since it’s for the benefit of schoolchildren.

• Brave New Films’ Over-Criminalized is showing 6 pm Friday, July 14, as part of the Friday night movie series at, at 1061 Chambers Street, Suite L. The movie is about 23 minutes long, followed by a discussion of up to one hour, and the event is FREE. “Over-Criminalized dramatizes the problems associated with criminalizing homelessness, mental illness and drug addiction and proposes some solutions,” according to organizer John Thielking. The movie night is a fundraiser for Nightingale Health Sanctuary and Occupy Medical.

• The film Chasing Coral is 6:30 pm Saturday, July 15, at UUCE, 1685 West 13th Avenue. The film was produced by the makers of Chasing Ice and the event is put on by Eugene Interfaith Earthkeepers, 350Eugene, Indivisible Eugene and Justice Network

• The Eugene/Springfield Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is meeting at the Springfield Public Library 3:30 pm July 15. “Ken Vogeney will be going over evacuation scenarios and information,” according to Susan Dahlquist, CERT Springfield District Lead on the Facebook page. She adds: “This is your chance to participate, get to thinking about the steps that would need to be taken if there was a need to evacuate a portion or all of Springfield. What would you do? What route would you take?”
