Can I Get There By Candlelight?

Vigils honor those who died on the streets of Lane County in 2025.

Forty-nine people died in 2025, designated “domicile unknown” according to the state of Oregon. Local homeless advocates put the count closer to 60. Either number is too high, and too often these community members go unremarked.

Black Thistle Street Aid and the City of Eugene’s Human Rights Commission Poverty and Homelessness Workgroup each held vigils Dec. 21, mourning those who died unhoused.
